Being one of the most important VAT Commissionerate, Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Dhaka (North) is Playing Pivotal Roles in Securing Govt. Revenue. Mr. Major Rouf Ul Alam was the founding Collector. Established in 1st July 1993 this Commissionerate implements govt revenue policy and collects revenue under the direction of National Board of Revenue, the apex authority for tax administration in Bangladesh. Total Number of Registered BIN (Business Identification Number) under this Commissionerate is 87774 as of December 2024.
This Office is responsible for Implementing Govt. revenue strategy and securing Revenue for the Govt. as per Budget determined by the National Board of Revenue under the supervision of Internal Resources Division, Bangladesh. Regular VAT audit plays a pivotal role in securing govt. revenue. This office also facilitates different manufacturing and assembly factory of diversified nature within the legal framework as per different SRO of the Government. These facilities reduce dependance on imported goods and strengthen the domestic market as well as contributes positively in the Balance of Payment of National Economy.
The Jurisdictions of this office is across 6 Districts namely, Dhaka (Gulshan, Banani, Uttara, Badda & Vatara), Gazipur, Mymensingh, Netrakona, Kishorgonj & Sherpur. This Commissionerate implements govt. revenue strategy & revenue mobilization with its 7 Divisional Offices, 24 Circle Offices and 4 land Customs (LC) Stations. Circle Office is responsible for collection of Value Added Tax (VAT) while LCs is responsible for Import Duty on imported goods, also facilitates exports and passengers’ baggage facility.
